ULYSSES
G. FORD III President SDC Consulting, Inc. Ulysses G. Ford, III, known
by many as "Uly", formed SDC Consulting, Inc. in October, 1998. He utilizes
his unique experience of working in the public and private sectors for a
total of thirty years. His 30-year involvement with national professional
and civic organizations associated with local government and communities
enhances his uniqueness.
SDC Consulting, Inc. represents private companies desiring
to enhance their position with local governments throughout the United States
of America and consults with local government to maximize their effectiveness.
Prior to forming his company, Mr. Ford served as an officer
and vice president for a fortune 500 company, Waste Management, Inc., one of the world's largest environmental services company. He
was with them for six years and was responsible for marketing and selling
to the public sector. His department was responsible for retaining over
2100 contracts with cities and counties and growing the over two billion
dollars in annual revenue these contracts produced. In 1995, he spearheaded an effort to develop and publish, "The Local Government Guide to Solid Waste Competitive Service Delivery," a decision-making tool for the public sector which was underwritten by Waste Management, Inc. For twenty years prior
to joining Waste, Mr. Ford served as a public administrator in four jurisdictions.
He was Public Works Director for the City of Houston, Tx.; City Services
Director for the City of Fort Worth, TX; the Director of Solid Waste Management
for Ann Arbor, Mich.; and, the Administrative Assistant to the Director
of the Public Works Department in Charlotte, N. C., which is also Uly's
home town.
Before his public service career, Mr. Ford was
in the insurance business and taught high school mathematics and coached
basketball. He is privileged to have served as president of the Municipal
Waste Management Association of the U. S. Conference of Mayors, past chair
of the Council of Equal Opportunity of the American Public Works Association,
former president in Texas of the Solid Waste Management Association of North
America. He currently serves as chair of the Corporate Advisory Council
of the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, member of the Business
Round Table of the National Association of Black County Officials, and a
member of the 100 Black Men of Macon and Middle Georgia. He is active in
the United Negro College Fund, the Tubmen Museum and the Education and Laymen
Ministries of Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Ford is a graduate of Talladega College in
Talladega, Alabama, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He also did
graduate work in urban administration at the University of North Carolina.
Uly has completed numerous management and professional programs, including
certificate programs from the University of North Carolina and the University
of Georgia. Uly and his wife, Beverly, have three sons: Anthony, a medical
doctor; and, Steven (Deceased) and Michael, both public administrators, Beverly, a
native of Macon, Georgia, is the owner of a consulting company, ASM & Associates.
Uly's hobbies include traveling and spoiling his grand kids.
